About Varkala
Varkala is the only place in southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea. These Cenozoic sedimentary formation cliffs, a unique geological feature on the otherwise flat Kerala coast, are known by geologists as Varkala Formation. The Papanasam Beach (also known as Varkala Beach) is renowned for a natural spring which is considered to have medicinal and curative properties.
